Wednesday WIPs

Two current projects going right now – Melville, and a new shawl. Melville is moving along really well. I am 2/3 of the way through the colorwork now, so making good progress. I love the contrast between the dark and light colors, and the fabric is so soft. This will be great to wear in cooler weather! Also, I know it’s the wrong kind of whale. When I bought the pattern I considered recharting it to have a sperm whale, but then that seemed like a lot of work. So here we are! Anyway, it’s turning out well and it’s an enjoyable knit. The other thing I’m working on is the Worst Witch shawl , designed by Vanessa Ewing of Cape May Fibers and using a miniskein kit created for the pattern. I treated myself to the box set last year, and I’m glad I did! Some really vibrant colors, and the design is complicated enough to be interesting, but not too much. Fun knit! Vanessa just put this year’s Autumn/Halloween box up for pre-order. It’s Poe themed, so mine is already ordered. Cannot resis...

Back Again!

April has been a busy month so far! First, I went on a trip with some wonderful friends to Salem, MA for the Fiber Witch Festival. This was a fun fiber and yarn fest with a witchy vibe. Because – Salem. We got there a day or two early so we had plenty of time to see the sites. We went on a ghost tour and a trolley tour, and also walked around quite a bit. The fiber festival itself was pretty good! There were vendors from the Salem area and elsewhere – mostly yarn and fiber, but also witchy wares and related items. It was held in the old town hall, which is where parts of Hocus Pocus were filmed. I found some pretty nice yarn, and a few other souvenirs of Salem. After that trip, I had a day at home, then off to Anchorage for work! I was gone for 5 days, counting the travel time. It was kind of grueling, but it was nice seeing old friends, and the work stuff went well. And then last week I recovered! So hopefully this week I will be able to catch up on everyone’s blogs an...

I’m Back!

Image
I’ve been away, first for a fun yarn-related event I will write more about soon, and then for work. I am catching up on reading everyone’s blogs and will be back to writing my own on a somewhat regular basis. But I’m back now, just in time to show off my finished pair of socks for Sock It To Me Monday. My super loud summer socks! The yarn is a Florida Oranges sock set from Cashmere and Coconuts, who has a shop on Etsy. I just did my regular 2 at a time, toe up socks. Usually I do toes and heels with the contrast miniskein, but this time decided to do something a little bit different. I don’t know that I would want to do all striped socks going forward, but the stripes are kind of fun for this pair! I took a page from my DH’s foot modeling book and just let the socks tell me how they wanted to be shown off. Whew! DH says he’s worked with better, but not many. These are easily the fastest finish for socks I’ve ever done. I started 4/6 and finished yesterday. But then, they w...

Wednesday WIPs

There’s a bit more to report on this week – three current WIPs! Melville ( Ravelry link ) is moving along – you can see more of the whale every day. I was hoping to be a bit further along with this by now, but it’s an enjoyable knit, so that’s OK. I’m going to be traveling over the next week and a half, so Melville is on a pause until I get back. There’s a little too much infrastructure on this project to bring it along. So I cast on a pair of regular socks, using a sock set that’s been in my stash for a few year now. The yarn is the Florida Orange sock set from Cashmere and Coconuts. That is some bright yarn! I am planning on using the contrast miniskein to do some stripes at the top of the leg rather than doing heels and toes with it. And last but not least, I cast on my Worst Witch scarf ( Ravelry link ) using the coordinating miniskein set. This is a fun knit so far, and I’m enjoying the alternating lace and slip-stitch sections. This was originally cast on as a backup tr...

FO Friday

DH’s socks are done! The yarn is Universal Yarns Uni Merino in the Salem colorway. I didn’t use a pattern at all, just my usual toe-up 2-at-a time method. On to the next!

Thursday ThWIPs

I’ve got the same two project moving along. Melville is somewhat further along from last week. I’m enjoying watching the pattern emerge! And DH’s socks are aaaalmost done! Just a bit more on the ribbing and then they are finished. So now the question of what to cast on next! More socks? A quick summer top with bigger yarn? A quick hat or cowl? Only time will tell!
