Wednesday WIPs

Two current projects going right now – Melville, and a new shawl. Melville is moving along really well. I am 2/3 of the way through the colorwork now, so making good progress. I love the contrast between the dark and light colors, and the fabric is so soft. This will be great to wear in cooler weather!

Also, I know it’s the wrong kind of whale. When I bought the pattern I considered recharting it to have a sperm whale, but then that seemed like a lot of work. So here we are! Anyway, it’s turning out well and it’s an enjoyable knit.

The other thing I’m working on is the Worst Witch shawl, designed by Vanessa Ewing of Cape May Fibers and using a miniskein kit created for the pattern. I treated myself to the box set last year, and I’m glad I did! Some really vibrant colors, and the design is complicated enough to be interesting, but not too much. Fun knit!

Vanessa just put this year’s Autumn/Halloween box up for pre-order. It’s Poe themed, so mine is already ordered. Cannot resist! Also, I’ve gotten quite a few kits from her over the years and always been happy with her yarn.

Do you tend to buy from the same dyers/designers, or prefer to buy from lots of different creators?

Disco Babushka Done!

My disco babushka is done! Overall, a quick and easy knit, and lots of fun. You could easily do this without the sequins if you are bling-averse, but they are easy and fun to add. The pattern is Dotty Disco by Olga Buraya-Kefelian, and the yarn is Ewetopia’s Silk and Mohair in the color Vintage Jar. I just got the sequins from Amazon, and they worked fine. I have also been working a lot on a Christmas present project that I cannot share quite yet. However, we are going on a few holiday adventures in the near future, so should have something to share. I am working on catching up with blog reading – so sorry to have fallen behind on reading everyone’s posts! How are you all doing? What are you working on right now?

10 Years!

Yesterday was my 10 year blogiversary! I had the sense I had been doing this for kind of a while so went looking back in the list of posts. April 24, 2016 was post #1 – so here is a blast from the past Obligatory origin story . Doing this blog has helped me find so many wonderful friends and otherwise been such a great thing! Looking forward to many more years of sharing stories and projects and adventures with you all, and reading about all of your thoughts and activities as well!

Home Work

Over the weekend we finished a project we have been meaning to do since we bought the house – fixed and updated an outside planting box. The planting box runs across the front of the house, and was coming apart. We decided we wanted to take apart just this end and sort of step the wall down. Also, since this corner of the yard is shady, I wanted to plant some ferns and moss in the end section. I have been wanting a shade garden for a while, and this was my chance! It took us a couple of weeks, as it was harder than we thought it would be, and there was a lot of dirt and decorative stone to move. However… Ta da! It’s done! We did use masonry cement to stick the stones together, so it should be sturdier. And without the weight of all the extra dirt inside, it should have less pressure to fight against. So hopefully it will stay together. It’s not perfect. There are a few places were we need some smaller half-bricks to fill in. However, we feel pretty good about it overall. And I...
