Wednesday WIPs: Head to Toe

With the year’s first WIP done, I am focusing on two smaller projects right now – socks and a hood.

My Mothman socks are coming along! The pattern is Above the Clouds by Annabeth Suchy, the main yarn is Chicago Mothman and the accent is Ruby, both from DyeMad Yarns. I am changing up the pattern a little bit. As given, it calls for a band of Mothmen above the bridges. But I decided I am just going to duplicate stitch on one Mothman, as he is a bit more elusive than that.

The other project is a Seafarer’s Balaclava, which is pretty close to being done! I bought this pattern and yarn as soon as I saw it and cast on shortly after it got here. It’s a unique design that should be great for keeping warm. And also it kind of reminds me of those old diving helmets, which makes me smile.

The pattern is Seafarer’s Balaclava by Vanessa Ewing of Cape May Fibers, and the yarn is her Organic Aran. The collar part is in fisherman’s rib stitch, so it is very cushy and cozy. I should have gotten this done before the current cold snap, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t the last time it will be cold here, so it should get a lot of use.

Once the hood is done, I will pick another one of my WIPs back up, so that will be back to the Crack That WIP KAL!

Disco Babushka Done!

My disco babushka is done! Overall, a quick and easy knit, and lots of fun. You could easily do this without the sequins if you are bling-averse, but they are easy and fun to add. The pattern is Dotty Disco by Olga Buraya-Kefelian, and the yarn is Ewetopia’s Silk and Mohair in the color Vintage Jar. I just got the sequins from Amazon, and they worked fine. I have also been working a lot on a Christmas present project that I cannot share quite yet. However, we are going on a few holiday adventures in the near future, so should have something to share. I am working on catching up with blog reading – so sorry to have fallen behind on reading everyone’s posts! How are you all doing? What are you working on right now?

10 Years!

Yesterday was my 10 year blogiversary! I had the sense I had been doing this for kind of a while so went looking back in the list of posts. April 24, 2016 was post #1 – so here is a blast from the past Obligatory origin story . Doing this blog has helped me find so many wonderful friends and otherwise been such a great thing! Looking forward to many more years of sharing stories and projects and adventures with you all, and reading about all of your thoughts and activities as well!

Home Work

Over the weekend we finished a project we have been meaning to do since we bought the house – fixed and updated an outside planting box. The planting box runs across the front of the house, and was coming apart. We decided we wanted to take apart just this end and sort of step the wall down. Also, since this corner of the yard is shady, I wanted to plant some ferns and moss in the end section. I have been wanting a shade garden for a while, and this was my chance! It took us a couple of weeks, as it was harder than we thought it would be, and there was a lot of dirt and decorative stone to move. However… Ta da! It’s done! We did use masonry cement to stick the stones together, so it should be sturdier. And without the weight of all the extra dirt inside, it should have less pressure to fight against.
